Writing update

Griffin has started writing his homework in his HSCN. He has already done it for two days and his penmanship actually looks good. He had GOOD stamped on the first one and VERY GOOD stamped on the second one. I am very happy with the improvement in his penmanship. I hope it gets better and better.

Writing Update

I've been asking Griffin to write the letters A-Z and his name everyday, for over a week now. So far, so good. He's been cooperating and he even tried writing some numbers. His number 2 and number 5 look good now. He did not write them in reverse but he still needs to copy the numbers just to be sure. I'm hoping that by the time June comes, he'll be at ease in writing numbers and letters. He's writing the alphabet in uppercase but maybe in a few more weeks I hope he could also practice writing the lowercase letters.

Handwriting Improvement

I see a lot of improvement in Griffin's handwriting. His lowercase a's look really well formed compared to a few days ago. I think he's just kind of lazy when it comes to writing so he really needs to practice. Hoping he would get better and better before he goes to big school this coming June.

Writing Woes

Teacher Cristy talked to me yesterday. She asked me if Griffin practices writing at home and I said no. Griffin doesn't really like writing because I think he has a hard time, forming letters. I bought writing books for him but it's hard to convince him to write. His teacher says he still has a hard time writing. He actually does his work really quickly but when it comes to writing he's kind of slow.

His other classmates are now writing both their first name and last name but Griffin tells the teacher if he can just do his first name because his surname is so long. When his classmates finish ahead of him, he tells them, "Hey guys, wait for me". He doesn't show frustration though, even if he does have difficulty writing, according to his teacher. She now gives him extra writing work in school to practice him. She's afraid he might have a difficult time when he goes to big school next year.

After the talk with his teacher, I told Griffin that he must practice writing his name everyday. I let him write his full name 2 times everyday. So far, he writes when I tell him to. He also has a problem writing some numbers as he writes them in reverse. I'm really hoping he gets better at writing soon.

Writing within the lines

When we arrived in school this morning, Teacher Mina told me that when Griffin was writing supposedly within the lines yesterday, he said, " It's harder than I thought".

My baby still has a difficult time writing especially now that he has to practice writing within the lines. I just hope that by the time he goes to big school he'll be better at writing already.

Good Mood

Griffin was in such a good mood yesterday. When I picked him up in school, he told me, "I'm a good boy today!". His teacher told me that he was even asking her, "Teacher is this OK?" while doing his work in school.

When we got home, he suddenly told me, "I want to do my homework." I asked him if his teacher gave him some worksheets and he said no. Then I remembered the writing books I bought. I initially asked him if he wanted to practice writing lower case letters since he's not at ease at writing them yet, but he wanted to write upper case letters. I gave him the workbook. I was expecting him to write just a few letters since I know he's not fond of writing. To my surprise, he filled up all the boxes and wrote the upper case A. I told him that I was so happy. He did not just do the A's but also the B's, E's and F's. He also wrote the missing letter on the picture words.

He has really mastered his upper case letters already, and would readily write his name.

Drawing and Writing Update

Here's Griffin's latest drawing of a face:




I think his drawing has improved a lot. The face looks really good. With regards to writing, he still prefers to trace the letters or he wants someone to hold his hand while writing. He actually writes the letters himself, he just wants someone to hold his hand, for moral support.

Griffin and Writing

When I brought Griffin to school today, he was in high spirits because he wasn't sleepy when he got up this morning. We arrived quite early so there was just one kid in school.

While I was there, Teacher Cristy told me that something Griffin did not want to do was write. That was one thing that I knew already as he really doesn't like writing letters. His usual excuse is, "I don't know" or "I can't do it" and these were the same excuses he told his teacher when he was asked to write so the teacher just made him scribble on paper.

It saddens me that even in school, Griffin does not want to write. I was expecting that he would at least try to write, seeing that his classmates were writing their names. It's stressing me. Now I have to find ways to get him to practice writing at home. I told him that next time the teacher asks him to write, he has to try writing even if the letters don't look very nice. I told him not to say "I don't know" or "I can't do it".

I also told him that from now on, we are going to have study time at home. During study time, he has to practice writing his name. He agreed to this. He even traced his name three times, on the Father's Day Card, on the worksheet and one using the color changing marker. I hope that the next time I ask him to write his name, he would willingly do it.

I'm just glad that he really loves school. He willingly goes to school even if at times, he is still sleepy.

Writing and Art

Griffin is getting better and better at writing his name. He doesn't need to trace the letters anymore.



He wrote the numbers 0, 1, 2, and 3 on the chalk board.


These are samples of what he calls art. He glued these on a piece of paper and told me it's art.


He cut the white paper into pieces and glued them on the colored paper.


He arranged these on the floor to make a face.


He added more pom poms and said the face had pimples.


He asked for a blue paper to make water. I gave him the paper and he folded it up to make it look like water then I made him a little boat to put in the water. I did not teach him how to do it. Maybe he saw it on the art show on Playhouse Disney.

Griffin writes his name

This is the very first time that Griffin wrote his name. He usually refuses to write it when I ask him to. This time, he did it himself. I hope he starts writing letters without tracing.

Writing the Alphabet

I was so happy that Griffin was writing some letters yesterday. I guess, in a few months, he'll probably be writing the alphabet on his own, not tracing the letters anymore.

Writing update

I was really surprised that Griffin wrote all the letters of the alphabet. He doesn't like writing specially when I ask him to write some letters. I offered to buy him new crayons as long as he would write some letters but he refused. I told him that he should learn to write his name before he goes to school in June but he tells me that the teacher will teach him how to write his name. Oh well, at least there's some progress.

Drawing and Writing

These are the letters H-O-T. It is his favorite word to spell. The letters are not in the correct order on the paper, but he had written it in the correct order, H, O, then T.


Griffin tried to spell his name. He was able to write the letters G, I, F, F, and I. I wrote the letters r and n to complete his name.


He was able to write the uppercase A here.


This is, according to him, an egg with a face.


This is the letter H. It's one of his favorite letters to write.

This is his daddy because he says his daddy has lots of hair on the face.

He drew a fish then colored it black.


Griffin loves doodling what he calls a "blakala" whether on his megasketcher, whiteboard, chalkboard or paper. However, he's lazy when it comes to drawing definite shapes or writing the alphabet. I don't know if his being left-handed has something to do with this.

When I ask him to draw a shape or write a letter, he usually says, "You draw it." or "You write it." He can draw some shapes or objects but he only does it if he's in the mood. It's the same when I ask him to practice or try writing the letters he does not know yet.

Recently when I ask him to try writing letters, he says, "when I'm tall already." He can write some letters like A, C, E, F, G, H, I, L, O, Q, T, V. Sometimes he tries writing the letters B, J, and N. The letters he's confident in writing are the letters H, I, O, T, F.

I can't get him to practice writing or drawing because, as in everything he does, you can't force him to do it. I guess, in his own time, he'll learn to write all the letters of the alphabet, probably when he starts going to school next school year.
